Radiation Therapy Side Effects
By: Golden State Cancer Centers on November 23, 2015
Side effects are issues that can arise as a result of receiving treatment. The reason for this is because the dose of radiation used to kill cancer cells, also kills healthy cells in the area being treated. Although each individual is different, some experience side effects and others may experience less or no side effects.
Some people who receive radiation therapy will see skin changes and experience some fatigue. Other side effects depend on the area that is being treated. Some include:
Hair loss to the area being treated
Changes in the mouth
Nausea and vomiting
Urinary and bladder changes
Again, side effects vary by each individual and the specific area being treated. Most of the side effects go away within two months after the treatment is completed.
Here at Golden State Cancer Centers we are equipped with a helpful staff including our Nurse and Patient Navigator who you can talk to in regards to any changes you may be experiencing. Dr. Scharlach also watches each patient closely and meets with them on a weekly basis to ensure any and all issues are being addressed. In addition, we also have educational materials that can help manage any aide effects as well.
For more information about radiation therapy and possible side effects, feel free to call us at 818-449-2700 and one of our knowledgeable staff members will be more than happy to assist you.
